According to his BrokerCheck report, Richard Botkin was recently sanctioned by FINRA.

In May 2017 FINRA sanctioned Richard Botkin following allegations he “participated in private securities transactions without first providing a written notice to his member firm.” FINRA’s findings state further: “Botkin sought and received his firm’s approval to participate in an outside business, a production company designed to create a documentary film. Botkin started selling shares in the production company, including $170,000 worth of shares to four firm customers and another $75,000 worth of shares to two non-customers. Nevertheless, the firm prohibited its registered representatives from participating in private securities transactions without providing prior written notice of the transactions to the firm and obtaining the firm’s approval. Also, Botkin provided false answers in response to the firm’s annual compliance attestations regarding his participation in private securities transactions.” He was issued a fine of $15,000 and a four-month suspension from associating with any FINRA member in any capacity.
